5th INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC SYMPOSIUM
ON TOURETTE SYNDROME
NYC JUNE 12-13 2009
Symposium Description
As part of its mission to identify current research advances, disseminate them among the scientific and medical communities, and establish networks of basic and clinical scientists, the Tourette Syndrome Association Inc.(TSA) is proud to sponsor the 5th International Scientific and Clinical Symposium on Tourette Syndrome. As with the four previous symposia convened by the TSA, this meeting will provide a forum for updating current research findings for both basic scientists and clinical researchers as well as allied medical practitioners.
Since the last Symposium convened in 2004, significant advances have been made in understanding the basic underpinnings of Tourette Syndrome (TS) as well as in the application of new and refined approaches to clinical care. The biological and medical literature on Tourette syndrome has grown exponentially. Because TS research depends on findings from many research disciplines, information flow and communication across disciplines are vital for the continued efficient and effective study and treatment of this disorder. This Symposium will serve as a highly effective venue for such cross-disciplinary communication. The program includes an expert faculty that will present on genetics, neuroimaging, neuropathology, clinical trials (medication and non-medication), epidemiology, neurophysiology, neuroimmunology and descriptive/diagnostic clinical science. The Symposium will set the agenda for future TS research efforts and improved clinical care.
CME Acreditation
Physicians
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of The Institute for the Advancement of Human Behavior-A Medical Education Company (IAHB-Amedco) and the Tourette Syndrome Association). Poster Presentations
To encourage the broadest possible exchange of recent findings relevant to Tourette Syndrome, registered participants were invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations. The program includes a formal poster session when presenters will have the opportunity to stand by their posters. The deadline for poster abstract submission was May 8, 2009. Abstracts are subject to review by a committee; accepted submissions are given a poster assignment number. Abstracts will be published in the Symposium syllabus.

Scholarships
Minority Scholarships - The Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA) is aware that Tourette Syndrome is under-diagnosed in many minority communities. In an effort to provide opportunities for improved treatment to these groups, the TSA is offering a limited number of scholarships to encourage medical and scientific professionals from these populations to attend the 5th International Scientific Symposium on TS.
Scholarships will cover the registration fee for the Symposium. However because our resources are modest, scholarship recipients will be responsible for their hotel and traveling expenses.
Closing date for applications is May 8, 2009. Applicants will be notified by e-mail on the outcome of their applications.
Applications are now closed for this scholarship program..
Early Career Scholarship - TSA plans to provide a limited number of partial scholarships to those investigators who are actively involved in TS Research but who may not be fully established in their careers.
Applications are now closed for this opportunity.
Applicants will be notified by e-mail whether or not they have been chosen to receive a scholarship.
Successful applicants will be expected to give a brief oral presentation (2-3 minutes) on their posters.
