Click here to read the official national TSA letter to Senator Edward Kennedy, Chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, in support of the Genetic Information Non Discrimination Bill, urging passage in the Senate, after the House passed the Bill in April 2007.  Because TS is a genetic disorder, for years this legislative issue has been an abiding priority for TSA.  We have long recognized that people with TS are vulnerable to such discrimination in both healthcare coverage and employment.

S. 358, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, would prevent health insurers and employers from using an individual’s genetic predisposition to a disease as a basis for denying them health coverage or a job.  Health insurers would be prohibited from using predictive genetic information to deny, change, refuse or renew, or change the terms, premiums or conditions of coverage.  Employers would be barred from using this genetic information in making employment-related decisions, such as those related to hiring, firing, promotions, or other job-related issues.
