Viewers please note - several different terms are used interchangeably when describing uncontrollable outbursts of anger, e.g., explosive anger, problems with impulse control, anger episodes, temper tantrums and sometimes even 'rage attacks'--to mention but a few.

Families and physicians have long recognized that there are some children and adults with Tourette Syndrome (TS) who do struggle with this type of behavior. Of interest are the results from published studies that have focused specifically on people with TS. Several characteristics were found to be common among those with such anger outbursts:

        1. There seemed to be no really significant provocation for these episodes - minor frustrating situations
          seemed to trigger explosive reactions.

        2. Invariably when the episodes had subsided, the individuals expressed honest remorse.

        3. Those with explosive anger outbursts also were coping with one or two other co-morbid conditions,
          e.g. ADHD.
